Unscheduled Debut of New Audi at Pebble Beach Results in Broken Windows, Golf Ball Dents
Audi’s attempt to unveil a new model at Pebble Beach backfired this week, as an unannounced “guerrilla” marketing event led to the car’s destruction by golf ball. Many golfers did not even see the new Audi concept car on the fairway, as their balls smashed its windows and battered the sheetmetal.
Audi of America spokesman Elmer Ellis commented “The blame goes to the golfers. We gave ample notice via our Twitter and Facebook accounts that we’d be debuting a car in a few hours at an unnamed golf course in California. Other companies do this surprise, last-minute crap all the time. That it didn’t work for us is not our fault.”
