The United Nations’ World Food Programme has warned that journalists — bloggers and traditional media members alike — risk serious malnutrition and possibly starvation while in attendance at the Detroit Auto Show.

“We characterize this as an imminent crisis,” said Thor Radjyk, a WFP spokesman.”The press days are Monday and Tuesday, and by all accounts car manufacturers will be providing little, if any food for the media.” This is a marked contrast for journalists, who in past seasons have been fairly well fed, despite harsh Januaries in Detroit.

“In 2004, we feasted on sushi” said Rick ‘Big Un’ Striker, of the CarsRulez blog. Mr. Striker, no doubt hallucinating the sushi experience due to a severe deficiency of Vitamin B12, shows just how bad the food situation of automotive journalists has become.
