Toyota Announces New “Surprise Sport” Performance Brand
Toyota has announced a new performance sub-brand called Surprise Sport. Unlike competitors Mazdaspeed and Nissan’s SE-R, the Toyota has a unique performance feature — sudden, powerful acceleration when drivers aren’t necessarily expecting it.
“The new Toyota Camry Surprise Sport brings performance and driving excitement to a new level. Sure, the Mazdaspeed6 is fun to step on the gas and take off. But our car will get your blood going even more, by flooring it when you least expect it,” said PR man Jack Lansing.
Surprise Sport will initially be offered in eight models, including the popular Toyota Camry and Toyota Corolla.
Toyota is not the first pioneer in this field. Years ago, Audi — which is also credited with bringing all wheel drive into the mainstream with its Quattro system — was the first to put exciting, unplanned acceleration into performance cars.
Lansing explained “Yes, others tried it, just as GM tinkered with airbags in the 1970s. But we’re the first manufacturer to offer ‘Surprise Sport’ across the line, in a truly mass-market ready application.”
Toyota’s planned ad campaign for the Surprise Sport models is the tagline “The New Toyotas with Surprise Sport: You just never f*cking know when it’s coming.”
LOL – nothing gets my heart pumping like sudden, rapid acceleration in the morning.
