Kansas City Man Preparing to Download Top Gear Season Premiere
A Kansas City man has begun preparations to download the season premiere of Top Gear, to air in the UK this coming Sunday night. Lance Humphreys, 27, has been making the necessary arrangements for days, including clicking then unclicking his ethernet cable, checking for updates on his torrent software, and posting to the ArsTechnica forums asking if anyone can suggest a torrent index site now that Pirate Bay is “as good as dead.”
Humphreys also reports that he bought 2 cans of Red Bull — “the newer big ones” — in case his downloading takes longer than expected. “It airs in England at 9. So you figure an hour to get it ripped. By 4PM Central Time, it should be hitting the torrent trackers. But you never know. Maybe I’ll need to stay up till like 11 to download it. And then I have to watch it immediately, so I could be up past midnight. The Red Bull is critical.”
The planning has taken a toll on Humphreys’ personal life, he admits. His girlfriend Adriana Harlotti told us “Sunday nights we always have pizza. Now he tells me that he’s not available this Sunday night. This whole weekend is ruined.”
Humphreys’ best friend, Nick House, disagrees with Humphreys’ efforts entirely. “The torrent approach is totally out of date and inefficient. I plan to watch Top Gear’s Season 14 premiere in 7 equal length pieces on YouTube, or possibly Streetfire.”
But still, Humphreys is unwavering. “It’s not like I’m going to wait to find out how long it takes the Stig to drive the new Ferrari 458 around the Top Gear Test Track. That would be absurd.”
