Ford Advising Toyota on How to Blame Firestone for Gas Pedal Recall

Ford is acting as a consultant for Toyota in devising ways to blame Firestone for Toyota’s current gas pedal sticking predicament, according to sources within both companies.

“We have experience with saying why and how it’s Firestone’s fault. Toyota can really benefit from our expertise in this area,” said Ford spokesman Mark Altec.

Toyota is apparently looking at a number of stories, including “the gas pedals are made from Firestone’s rubber” to “the tires forced the gas pedals to the floor.”

But the unofficial line out of Ford is not enthusiastic about the cooperation. An anonymous person within Ford’s Dearborn headquarters named Burt Salem told MetaCars “This is just another example of Toyota copying American innovation. We built great trucks, they’ve tried to build good trucks. We built the fantastic but sales-dud Flex wagon, they built the so-so but sales-dud Venza wagon. We built the Explorer that needed to be recalled by the millions, now they’re recalling vehicles by the millions. Enough already.”
