Bob Lutz: After Huge Success of Pontiac G8 and Pontiac GTO, We’ll Sell Holden Commodore as a Premium Chevy

ChevyCapriceSpeaking to reporters this morning, GM Vice President of Things You Probably Shouldn’t Be Taking Seriously Anymore Bob Lutz told reporters that “Considering the huge, astonishing success of the Pontiac G8 and Pontiac GTO, we’d like to do it again by bringing the Holden Commodore to the U.S. as the Chevrolet C8.”

Indeed, Pontiac has nearly sold all of the Holden Commodore-cum-Pontiac G8s it brought to the U.S. “Think about how much Americans loved the G8. We are almost sold out. That proves there’s a demand for more,” said Lutz to a crowd of cheering journalists. One was taken to the hospital after passing out with excitement.

Lutz, followed by Mark Reuss, also announced good news for the enthusiast crowd. “The Chevy C8 will be successful. Like we did with the Pontiac G8, we’ll be announcing that it will come with a 6-speed manual transmission for both the V6 and V8 models. There will be the sports wagon and also the ‘ute’ version, likely to be called the El Camino.”

Reuss and Lutz then turned to questions. Will the El Camino come with a stick and weigh under 2500 lbs and cost $19,000?” oneĀ  reporter asked. “Absolutely” Reuss said.

American fans couldn’t be more excited. “There will be at least a good 2 years until we find out the Chevy C8 is available only in limited trim levels, for more money than we want to pay, in sedan-only form, with automatic transmissions only, and with a brutal dealer markup,” said Kevin Walker, head of the Pontiac G8 fan club.

Walker was not alone. According to Jalopnik.com, “We’ll be covering the new American version of the Commodore nonstop, with several posts per day. When Bob Lutz is there to float a rumor, we’ll cover it. When a GM spokesman kills the rumor, we’ll cover that too. And then when Lutz re-starts the rumor, we’ll be sure to publish his comments.”

Lutz is scheduled to mediate Palestinian-Israeli peace talks this afternoon.
